Hypnosis For Obesity
Obesity continues to be a growing health issue, being linked to a wide variety of health issues like type 2 diabetes and cancer.
In order to put the extent of the obesity problem into perspective, one can simply look at the findings of a recent study that found that nearly 70% of adults fall under the categories of obese or overweight.
In the English-speaking world this figure is only surpassed by the United States.
The most common recommendations for combating this epidemic given by health officials are regular exercise along with eating less processed foods, carbs, and more veggies.
These are excellent recommendations, however these thing are all much easier said than done, and the mind can be quite persistent in clinging onto old habits.
Your perception food – say, as a comfort or condolence rather than as fuel – and the way you think about physical health – say, as about external beauty rather than an internal wholeness – are factors that are just as important as knowing what kinds of change you need to make.
Nevertheless, these aspects of the process of changing your relationship with food are often overlooked, despite the fact that by ignoring them one is not as likely to make the changes that they know they need to make.
What does a person’s mindset have to do with their body’s size?
Many people might find it odd at first glance to suggest that these two things, body size and mindset, are at all connected.
However, if you consider your mindset as the sum of all of your beliefs, attitudes, and expectations which guide the way that you live and what you do, then it is obvious that this includes the ideas that guide the way that we eat.
A lot of people seem to be under the impression that their body size is due to their genetics, and that they are overweight simply because it runs in the family, or perhaps because of the medication they are taking.
These kinds of ideas, that your obesity is simply physical or even fated can lead to people not bothering to exercise or cutting down their food portions in the first place.
However, studies have shown that the just the thought alone of having power over your weight issues can have a significant impact and real effects in one’s efforts to combat obesity.
For example the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently published a study in which it was shown that participants who were made to believe that they could lose a certain amount of weight with a certain period of time were much more likely to do so, and some participants even lost more weight than expected.
