Hypnosis for the management of chronic pain

chronic pain hypnotherapy treatment

It has been determined by the National Institutes for Health that hypnosis is quite likely to prove effective for the majority of people who suffer from chronic pain.

Their research has shown that hypnotism generally brings about positive results when incorporated into a treatment program to help with a variety of psychological or physiological conditions.

More particularly their study on the management of chronic pain found that research about the effects of hypnotism for the relief of chronic pain was the most abundant area of all, and they also discovered that among the benefits of using hypnosis for pain relief was the alteration of the psychological factors involved in the experience of pain (including even severe physical pain).

The report published by the National Institutes for Health included the following results:

  • Doctors and other health practitioners were significantly more satisfied with patients of theirs who had undergone hypnosis than with patients who had not.
  • Patients having undergone hypnosis were found to have a higher physiological stability overall
  • Patients having undergone hypnosis were found to experience a better outcome overall following medical treatment

These results are very promising for may individuals because hypnosis is such an simple and natural way of helping a very wide range of people to deal with their chronic pain.

Pain medications, especially strong ones typically prescribed for serious physical pain, can have such dramatic effects on people that they get in the way of performing daily functions like working, studying, or driving.

Certain types of pain medication, namely opioids, can also lead to addiction as well as other medical problems. For more information and links to references about this very serious issue, please have a look at my blog post entitled “The Opioid Epidemic”.

The “side effects”, so to speak, of hypnotism are overwhelmingly positive. In addition to being able to significantly reduce the impact of a client’s pain on their life, hypnotherapy sessions for pain relief also intend to improve patients’ overall self-confidence and even their productivity and effectiveness in performing everyday tasks.

In other words, the research is in, and it demonstrates very clearly how effect hypnotherapy can be as a natural adjunct to the treatment of chronic pain.
